Amalfi and Quasimodo
Maybe it is the name, maybe the thousand memories of someone else. This place invites to sing and it is hard not to talk by verses, even now that the little square has now become a parking lot, and the narrow alley that climbs up high is full of tired shops.
Among the many ice creams and ceramics shops, the limoncello does not seem more special than the frozen pizza in franchise.
But looking up, there are still flowers blooming from the walls, lemon trees warming up in the sun. A sun that is always in front.
Amalfi is a small place. Whithout a room and a balcony overlooking the sea, the touristic promenade soon is over. After that there is a bus queue along the narrow coastal road.
Wait. I’ll stay here, let me sip a coffee again. Let me look at the little things, like the leaflets of those who offer embroidery courses. Let me count the stones of the road, look behind the curtains of the old houses, in search of what has never changed, going up to the last house at the top. Just to watch the sea.
Here is the garden that we needlessly and always look for after knowing the perfect places of childhood
a memory that gest tangible over the sheables
suspended on the leaves of magificent orange and cedar trees
in the hanging gardens of the cloisters.
